The Anvil

The Anvil was a quarterly publication that took an in-depth review of one issue at a time.

As a social justice and human rights journalist, Doreen Nicoll was the editor of It's Not Just a Women's Issue. This award winning edition explored all aspects of violence against women as well as the impacts on children and society.

From 2013 until 2020, The Anvil covered: Colonialism 150 -- 'Canada Day' through an Indigenous lens. We partnered with Water Watchers to address all things water. We addressed intersecting crisis like housing, food insecurity, mental health, safe streets, Pride, and fostering an inclusive Hamilton. Our basic income paper was well received as a means of improving the over arching social determinants of health.

Doreen is a constant reminder that there are good people out there. As part of the editorial team she collaborated with community leaders, writers and activists to generate content on issues ranging from immigration, drug legalization and violence against women. She was the most reliable contributor we had and would dive head first into whatever topic she was writing about.
